Hola Amigos! Do you only treat yourself to tacos on Taco Tuesday because you’re watching your cintura? Well what if I told you, you could eat tacos everyday? News Flash! Our El Cielo Tortillas, totopos and tostaditas are actually quite healthy!
Did you know El Cielo products are:
Our products are all made through a traditional Mexican process called: nixtamalization. Nixtamalization is the process of soaking corn kernels in lime, rinsing them and removing the husk before grinding it down into Masa (tortilla dough). We then press the masa into a round shape to form a tortilla! This method goes back to the Aztec and mayan times so gracias Abuela for the tip!
Gluten is a protein found in wheat, rye, barley, triticale and oats. We are only corn and lime hence why all our products are gluten free (traditional tortillas don’t actually use wheat). A person on a gluten free diet can still enjoy a wide and varied diet, but it is important to read the labels of all packaged or prepared foods! So we are proud to say, our consist mainly of corn and lime, that’s it! They are a great alternative to mix up your mid week lunch and or dinner and put a bit of Mexican flare into your healthy eating diet!
Who said Vegans have more fun? They were right! Veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose. We love our furry little friends so all our corn products are vegan, even our totopos and tostaditas as they are fried in canola oil! #veganapproved
